Kicha Tube fame Nihal Raj wins ‘YONO SBI 20 Under Twenty’ title
Nihal Raj aka Kicha, a seven-year-old ‘chef’ from Kochi wins ‘YONO SBI 20 Under Twenty’ award. Over 1.7 lakh people voted for 60 nominations across 10 diverse categories, from which 20 winners were then shortlisted by eight eminent personalities to be awarded at the SBI event.
Ten boys and ten girls under the age of 20 from diverse fields were shortlisted as winners. Rajnish Kumar, Chairman, SBI awarded these winners at an event in Bengaluru, where Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor was the Chief Guest.
The son of advertising professional Rajagopal V. Krishnan and Ruby, a baker, Kicha has always been interested in cooking, helping and hanging around his mother while she goes about her daily work. His father created the YouTube channel for Kicha, impressed not just by the kid’s ability to execute simple recipes but to explain them on the fly without the help of a script. KichaTube
His life changed when Facebook bought the rights to his Mickey Mouse Mango Ice Cream for $2,000. In May 2016, Kicha’s father was contacted by Facebook representatives, and the two sides struck a $2,000 deal in which the company acquired the non-exclusive rights to a video of the boy making Mickey Mouse mango ice cream.
Nihal was the youngest Indian to be part of the Ellen Show aired on NBC Channel 4. Kicha studies in Choice School in Kochi and has an older sister as well. He is not averse to cooking on special occasions for his family.
The 20 winners of ‘YONO SBI 20 Under Twenty’ ranged from seven to 19-year-olds. Some of winners include Zaira Wasim of Secret Superstar fame, Jasu Khan – young Rajasthani folk singer, Manu Bhaker –Indian sports shooter and ISSF World Cup Gold Medalist, Anubhav Wadhwa – Designer, Tech entrepreneur and Social Activist, Rinku Hooda- India’s Youngest Paralympian (para javelin thrower), Sovesh Mohapatra- junior scientist and Sparsh Shah- singer, songwriter, rapper and inspirational speaker.
