Fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari arrested in Senagal
Underworld don Ravi Pujari, who used to operate in Mumbai in the 1990s, has been arrested by Senegal police following a tip-off by Indian investigative agencies, according to media reports.
Pujari was arrested on January 22 from Dakar and the Indian embassy was informed on Januray 26, media reports said quoting officials in Senegal.
The investigation agencies had found Ravi Pujari’s location to be Burkina Faso in western Africa before he was located in Senegal.
Ravi Pujari is one of the most notorious names in the underworld and has been mentored by gangster Chhota Rajan. He is wanted in a list of cases including extortion, kidnapping and murder. He had moved to Dubai in the late 1990s and used to extort from real estate builders. Pujari has been on the run for several years and was wanted in dozens of cases of threat calls to Bollywood stars and other prominent personalities.
Last year, JNU student Umar Khalid, student activist Shehla Rashid and Dalit leader and Gujarat legislator Jignesh Mewani had allegedly received death threats from the gangster.
Ravi Pujari also allegedly used to make extortion demands to Bollywood personalities between 2009 and 2013.
